Long-term disease devastates the body mainly due to pharmacological treatment and lack of psychological comfort, but also has a very bad effect on the condition of the skin and hair. Pressure ulcers appear on the body. What causes pressure ulcers and how to prevent them?

Pressure ulcers(skin necrotic changes) are caused by tissue hypoxia caused by prolonged pressure. They are favored by the lack of exercise, insufficient hygiene, urinary incontinence, improper positioning of the limbs or an incorrectly selected mattress and a poorly made bed. They form on the chin, cheekbones, collarbones, hips, knees, heels, occiput, spine, elbows, coccyx, buttocks, calves.

How to prevent pressure ulcers?

  • Change the position of the patient's body every 1-2 hours.
  • If possible, you should spend part of the day sitting with your feet on the floor.
  • After washing, dry your skin thoroughly and apply a moisturizing lotion. Cover areas exposed to bedsores with ointment or protective cream, and rub with alcohol once a day and gently pat with your hand to stimulate circulation.
  • Place soft rolled blankets or rubber discs under your legs, buttocks and shoulder blades.
  • Do not use bedding made of rough fabrics (terry cloth, bark).
  • Inspect your skin during your skincare routine. Redness, swelling and pain indicate the formation of pressure ulcers. Blue and flaky skin indicates progressive ischemia that leads to tissue necrosis.
