Your skin serves you faithfully - it protects against the influence of the external environment, sun, cold and germs. You have 1.5-2 m2 of it. You take care of and nurture it. But do you know what skin is made of?
Leatheris made of three layers:
- epidermis
- dermis
- subcutaneous tissue
The epidermis consists of several layers. Young epidermal cells (keratinocytes) are formed in the deepest (basal) cells, which are pushed upwards as they mature. They become the stratum corneum, i.e. the level of dead cells, and gradually exfoliate (we shed 0.5-1.5 grams of epidermis daily). In the basal layer there are also pigment cells (melanocytes) that determine the complexion and provide protection from the sun. The epidermis contains Langerhans cells responsible for immune defense and Merkel cells - transformed keratinocytes.
The dermis is made of connective tissue, with horizontal collagen fibers and vertical elastins in it - they form a mesh suspended in the amorphous mass formed by mucopolysaccharides, resulting in skin elasticity and firmness. There are numerous sebaceous and sweat glands, hair follicles, lymphatic and blood vessels, receptors and fibers of the nervous system. This layer, especially the hyaluronic acid it contains, strongly binds water (70% in a young person) and makes it difficult for it to move towards the epidermis.
The subcutaneous tissue is made of protein (collagen) fibers forming an irregular structure. Between them there are fat cells organized into lobules - they are responsible for the storage of fat and the metabolism of certain hormones. The subcutaneous tissue is innervated and highly vascularized. In the vicinity of the natural orifices of the body (mouth, nose, genitals), the skin passes into the mucosa of the respective systems (digestive, respiratory, urinary, reproductive). It has a slightly different structure, many blood and lymph vessels and numerous receptors because it connects the external environment with the body's interior.
Men's business. Men's skin is different from women's skin. It is almost 16 percent. thicker, more oily (male sex hormones increase the production of sebum). It also has a higher acidity level - its pH is in the range 4.5-5.5. In addition, it has more collagen and is more elastic. Slowerdries up and goes limp. It does not age as fast as in women. However, men spend much less time on their skin and its proper care - they wash their face with soap, do not use moisturizing creams, not to mention applying peelings and applying masks. This is a mistake. The result of neglect is deep wrinkles and furrows.
Advice for men: After shaving, apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to soothe irritations and regenerate the epidermis. When you are going to spend the day in the sun, do not forget to apply a cream with filters to protect against UVA and UVB radiation on your face and body. Before going to bed, apply a moisturizing cream that will restore the lipid coat that covers the epidermis. Peel once a week and then apply a mask. These simple treatments will keep your skin in good condition for many years.
