Does eating lactose-free products - milk, cheese - make any sense (i.e. is it ultimately he althier) for people with pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes? How the GI of such products is presented in relation to their "normal" counterparts. Is it lower?
Lactose-free products are products devoid of milk sugar, i.e. an ingredient that increases postprandial glycemia. However, sugar is not completely removed but hydrolyzed to glucose and galactose. Products of this type are dedicated to people suffering from hypolactasia, lactose intolerance, but they are not the best choice for people with pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes or type 2 diabetes.
