I'm 33 years old and for the past 7 years or so - literally - I've been plagued by cystitis. I have already been treated by many internists, I know almost all possible drugs and antibiotics related to the treatment of this type of infection, I even had this problem at the gynecologist. Urine tests just show bacteria (I don't know what kind, I would have to look for results), ultrasound is normal. However, none of the internists that I visit can remedy the relapses of the disease, and none suggested that I go to a specialist - a urologist. Should I insist on it?
Recurrent urinary tract infections are a common problem among women. I believe that referring you to a urologist may help reduce the frequency of relapses. Regardless of the treatment, you should pay special attention to the maintenance of broadly understood hygiene in order to minimize the factors causing infections.
