I am 62 years old and for many years I have been taking "Diuresin SR" and "Lisiprol" 20 mg - 1 tab / day (arterial hypertension) and "Penester" and "Fokusin" 1 tab / day (benign prostatic hyperplasia) . This year I was diagnosed with gout and was recommended to take "Milurit" 300 mg once a day. I have a question; Was the long-term use of these first drugs (especially diuretics) not the cause of gout?
Diuretics as such do not cause gout, but can affect uric acid levels, especially when used long-term. The primary cause of gout is disturbances in the excretion and reabsorption of uric acid in the renal tubules. For example, absorption of uric acid in the renal tubules may be increased, with the consequent increase in blood uric acid levels. In other cases, increased uric acid levels may be caused by increased uric acid production due to altered uric acid production enzymes. In the treatment of gout, in addition to following the doctor's instructions regarding the use of medications, it is very important to strictly adhere to the dietary recommendations. You should not eat spicy, spicy foods, as well as chocolate, coffee, alcohol, strong broths. With regular medication and following a diet, the disease should not bother you.
