I'm 31 weeks pregnant. Today I had an ultrasound - the doctor noticed that my child had an enlarged urinary tract, description - left kidney micron 2.8 mm, right kidney 4.5 mm thick, right ureter 8.0 mm wide, he recommended another ultrasound examination in 10 days. What could this mean?

A widening of the fetal pelvis and ureter may indicate an obstruction in the uretero-bladder junction. It may be caused by a functional obstruction resulting from a defect within the urethra, for example in boys with valves of the posterior urethra. The obstruction in the uretero-bladder junction is also caused by the defective structure of the ureteral segment connecting with the bladder - it is an anatomical obstacle. Another cause may be that urine flows back from the bladder through the ureter into the kidneys. An ultrasound examination is required each time the child is born. After confirming the dilatation of the ureter and pelvis, send the child to a specialist facility.
