I visited my brother in prison. He got 3 years. My mother challenged me, she doesn't want to know him. I will go to him, but I do not know how with the money, because she will not contribute. If I don't tell her, I don't have anyone to leave Dawid with when I leave. The husband works. It is a 14-hour drive from us to Sieradz. But if I don't go, who? He's a brother, after all. Am I wrong, maybe my mother is right and I'm ashamed of him too?
Every person must have some mental support, feel that someone loves him, tries to understand him and wants to help in misfortune. It is extremely important for a trapped person that such a person be outside the walls. Convicts rejected by their relatives rely only on prison contacts and look for support there. They take root more easily in the criminal environment. After serving their sentence, they often come into conflict with the law again, because they have nowhere to return to. Without the psychological support of their loved ones, it is more difficult for them to arrange their lives from the beginning. Your visits, letters, parcels are now the only way to help and give your brother a chance to return to normal life in the future. Don't try to convince your mom. She should understand this in time. All you have to do is diminish your emotions a bit. Try to suggest that your brother write a warm letter to her. If you find in your husband understanding for your behavior, you will certainly be able to somehow organize care for the child during (not so frequent) trips.
