Pain in the nose , caused by a common runny nose that lasts for a week, can be survived without the help of a doctor by using nasal drops. But when the ailment lasts longer, it is better to ask the doctor what is bothering you and why your nose hurts?

And this one can hurt us for various reasons and in different places.

Pain in the nose - acute rhinitis

Accompanied by a feeling of fullness and pain in the nose. Also hurts the forehead and nasal throat. The nose is blocked and there is a watery discharge. We may lose our sense of smell partially.

Some patients develop a sore throat. After the acute onset of the disease, accompanied by frequent sneezing, the discharge in the nose thickens and is difficult to remove.

A fever may appear (even 39.5 degrees Celsius). The skin on the wings of the nose is irritated and painful to touch. You need to seek professional help to prevent sinus involvement.

Pain in the nose - chronic rhinitis

In chronic hypertrophic rhinitis there is a feeling of pressure or even pain at the base of the nose and chronic obstruction of the nasal passages.

Dry rhinitis is characterized by a strong drying of the mucosa in the nose, an unpleasant burning sensation and a feeling of blockage that is not caused by swelling.

Pain in the nose - sinusitis

Pain with sinusitis usually affects the bridge of the nose and the lower part of the forehead. Pain from sinus disease can be a sharp shooting pain radiating into your eyes.

Another type of pain will be pain with a feeling of fullness and weight in the nose. The pressure below the sinus floor on the inner corner of the eye socket at the base of the nose is usually very painful.

The pain in the nose may worsen at night, which makes it much more difficult to rest. In some cases, dizziness may appear which increases when bending down or standing up.

Pain in the nose - abscess of the frontal sinus

Pain is a typical symptom of this disease. It usually covers the brow bone area, but enoughit is often spread over the base of the nose.

The strongest pain occurs in the morning, right after getting out of bed. It gradually disappears during the day. The formation of an empyema is caused by injuries and specific infectious diseases (flu). The symptom of an empyema of the frontal sinus is a significant sensitivity to pressure or percussion, especially of the orbital plaque.

There is also purulent or muco-purulent and abundant nasal discharge. The sick person loses his sense of smell. Pus oozing from the space between the middle turbinate and the outer wall of the nose will also be a troublesome symptom.

Pain in the nose - acute ethmoid sinusitis

It is accompanied by an unpleasant feeling of pressure, growing to the point of pain, at the base of the nose and in the area of ​​its back. A headache may also occur, but it affects half and then the entire head.

There is a feeling of fullness between the eyes, and sometimes moderate pain in the ethmoid area and around the nose bone.

Creamy, thick mucus may appear, which the patient removes from the nose with great difficulty. Sometimes the condition is accompanied by ringing in the ears and visual impairment.

An unusual symptom is attacks of breathlessness and coughing, or unilateral paralysis of the soft palate.

Pain in the nose - fracture of the nasal bones

A fracture causes sharp and severe pain in the area of ​​the bridge of the nose. The bones of the nose are broken after an injury. Often the nose is twisted or sunken.

There is swelling, crackling and nose bleeding. In such situations, a nose X-ray and specialist bone assembly are necessary.

Pain in the nose - nostril boil

Small but painful infiltrates form in the nostrils or right next to them in the skin or mucosa that covers the cartilage.

The pain is very intense until an incision is made or the boil ruptures spontaneously. The boils of the nostrils when fully developed are red, clearly protrude above the nasal mucosa, and in the center have a yellowish prominence above the pus reservoir.

A nostril boil can cause an enlarged lymph nodes above the mandible.

Pain in the nose - foreign body in the nose

It happens that a foreign body in the nose does not cause symptoms that we immediately notice. It happens, however, that it causes pain and other ailments, e.g. a feeling of fullness in the nose.

Foreign matter in nose may restrict free breathing. Mucopurulent discharge may also appear. The patient is not able to clear the nose on his own. This has to be done by the ENT specialist.

Nasal pain - nasociliary neuralgia

The pain of this condition spreads down the sides of the nose, to the forehead and eye sockets.

It radiates to a small arealimited by an eyebrow at the top.

Sometimes the pain goes all the way to the tip of the nose. Pain is transient. Often, however, without proper treatment, it returns.

Nasal pain - nasal septum abscess

It manifests itself in pain and a feeling of fullness, distension that radiates to the middle part of the nose. Nasal swelling and stuffiness may occur. Often there is also discharge with an unpleasant, nauseating smell. An abscess may form after an injury.

Pain in the nose - multiple nose (tertiary syphilis)

In the early stages of the disease there is pain in the area of ​​the bridge of the nose and forehead, which intensifies at night and increases with necrosis.

Usually it is a complication of previous syphilis. The symptom is the discharge of foul mucopurulent discharge and nasal crusts. The consequence of the disease may be a perforation of the nasal septum, collapse of the nose or front nostrils, and narrowing of the nose. Specialized treatment is necessary.

Pain in the nose - glanders

It is an infectious zoonotic disease that is very rare in humans. The period of incubation of the disease ranges from 2 weeks to even several months.

There are two types of glanders:

  • Acute form - initially manifested by a fever above 40 degrees C. Then there are nodules and ulcers on the nasal mucosa, discharge from the nose (first mucopurulent, then bloody) and severe swelling of the mandibular lymph nodes.
  • Chronic form - it can last for months or even years. In this form, symptoms may affect the lungs, nose, and skin.

Less common causes of nasal pain:

  • Fibroma - fibroids are benign neoplastic tumors that appear as lumpy growths in various areas of the body, including the nose. Even though the fibroma is a neoplastic lesion, it does not pose a he alth risk because it does not become malignant. However, it is an aesthetic problem and that is why many people decide to remove them.
  • Nasal Polyps - Nasal polyps are a condition characterized by soft lumps that appear in the nose as a result of inflammation or allergies. Polyps are not dangerous, but they cause problems with the patency of the nose, smell, rhinitis and pain when getting rid of secretions.
  • Myiasis - a disease caused by the larvae of flies. It is accompanied by obstruction and severe irritation of the nostrils. In some cases, there is facial swelling and high fever. There have been deaths.
