The deposits from which it comespeloidbegan to form about 10 thousand. years BCE, after the glacier receded. They are formed from dead marsh vegetation and are found in Central and Eastern Europe.

Our resources are famous for their purity and high quality, which is why they are referred to as the black gold of Poland. Mud was used for the first time for medicinal purposes in 1858 in Krynica Górska. Todaymud treatmentsare performed in many spas. But you can also make them at home.

Peat - healing properties

Peat is primarily a huge we alth of valuable organic substances: humic and fulvone acids, carbohydrates, tannins, bitumens, proteins, resins, micro- and macroelements.

Compounds with estrogenic activity, affecting the adrenal cortex and stimulating ovarian function, are an unusual ingredient, which is used in the treatment of female diseases.

Peat also contains a lot of inorganic substances, mainly various s alts (iron, calcium, clay) and silica. Organic acids and s alts give it astringent, anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties.

Therefore, treatments with the use of peloid regenerate the epidermis and damaged tissues, as well as increase the blood supply to the skin.

Peat for spine and arthritis

The indications for the use of peloid are chronic and subacute (not acute!) Inflammations of the motor organs - soft tissues, bones and joints - also rheumatic diseases.

Has a positive effect on ankylosing spondylitis, in syndromescervical, shoulder and lumbar pain, in swelling after bruises, fractures and sprains.

Peat helps in diseases of the nervous system (sciatica, paralysis and paresis, damage to peripheral nerves) and cardiovascular diseases (e.g. with atherosclerotic vasoconstriction).

Peat for ulcers

It soothes ailments of the digestive system: chronic enteritis, gastric ulcer disease, spasms of the large intestine.

In turn, mud rectal tamponsare used in the case of anal inflammation, hemorrhoidal hyperplasia and anal fissures.

Peat for vaginitis

Peat is helpful in the treatment of female diseases, e.g. inflammation of the vagina and appendages, erosions. It is used after gynecological surgeries, in the case of hormonal insufficiency of the ovaries and underdevelopment of the reproductive organ, as well as during the menopause (it alleviates its symptoms, moisturizes and regenerates the vaginal mucosa).

In these cases, peloid vaginal tampons are used.In folk medicine they are also used in the treatment of infertility. Tampons are inserted using a tube with a vaginal cap.

Peat for cellulite and hair

Peat has a good effect on the skin, which is why it is used in cosmetics. Firms the body, thus getting rid of cellulite, smoothes wrinkles, regenerates hair. It is worth trying out peloid preparations available in pharmacies: shampoos, lotions, bath s alts and masks.

Note: mud is not recommended for children!

Mud baths and mud baths

The most popular, especially in spas, aremud baths . You need about 150 kg of peat silt to carry out one.

It is mixed in a vat with water to obtain a thick paste with a temperature of approx. 45 ° C. Peat is a bad conductor and gives off its heat slowly, so even if the temperature is quite high, there is no risk of getting burned.

The pulp is dense and heavy, hence its thermal and biochemical properties are further enhanced by the mechanical effect -pressure and friction stimulate skin receptors.

Under the influence of heat, the body excretes unnecessary metabolic products, which are captured and retained by peloid, which has absorptive properties.

Heat stimulates circulation and accelerates the absorption of active ingredients in peat. A full bath is a heavy burden for the body, so it can only be used by patients who have no problems with the circulatory system.

Milder and safer are half baths (from the waist down) or sitz baths. In sanatoriums, mud compresses are also done , e.g. on the neck or lumbar parts.

Homemade mud wrap

A mud bath can be done at home using a special, water-soluble peat cube. However, mud pastes (available at a pharmacy) for topical compresses are more convenient for home use.

The thin sheets of peat placed in the foil are heated in water, then the foil is cut, placed on the sick area, covered with foil, a towel and a blanket.

Keep the compress for about 30 minutes. For the treatment to work, the treatments should be repeated in ten-day cycles (10 days and a break). In some situations, e.g. with fresh bruises or acute inflammations, cold compresses are placed (refrigerated).

Peat - FIBS preparation. Where to buy? What's the price?

The preparation called FIBS is a distillate (extract) of liman peloid with cinnamic acid and coumarin. It was developed by three Russian scientists named Fiłatov, Bibier and Skorodinskoj (hence the name of the preparation).

FIBS is given by injection, either into a muscle or under the skin. It is used as an aid in inflammatory eye diseases and in other chronic inflammatory diseases and immune disorders, as it increases the number of leukocytes (cells of the immune system). The preparation can no longer be purchased in Poland.

It is worth knowing that another type of peloid extract isdry peloid extract- TTP (Tołpa Peat Preparation - Topła peat preparation).

Scientists have shown that peat extract supports the treatment of gastrointestinal mucosa ulcers, varicose ulcers, and cervical erosions.

It also helps to alleviate the course of chronic infections, especially of the respiratory tract. Currently, the preparation can be purchased in the form of tablets. The price is about PLN 35 for 30 capsules.
