Summer sunglasses are a necessity. Those who do not protect their eyes with good sunglasses expose them to the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. Which sunglasses should you choose? Why are designer sunglasses better than supermarket sunglasses?
Sunglassesis an item without which you should never leave the house, both in summer and winter. The sun's rays, regardless of the season, reaching the eye, can cause many diseases.
Therefore, when the sun is shining strongly, you need sunglasses with properly tinted eyeglass lenses with a sunscreen of at least 400.
Sunglasses only from a reliable source
Sunglasses are best bought in an optician's shop, because those from bazaars and supermarkets are harmful. In the sun the pupils constrict spontaneously so that as little sunlight as possible falls into the eyes.
If you cover your eyes with dark glasses without an appropriate filter (and usually glasses from bazaars and hypermarkets do not have such glasses), the pupils, instead of narrowing down, will widen. This way, more harmful sunlight will reach the inside of the eye.
How to choose sunglasses?
Sunglasses: lens colors
When choosing glasses, it is worth knowing what is the meaning of the color of the glasses.
- Brown - best stops blue light, which causes the most intense glare. It also increases the contrast of the color of the grass against the blue sky.
- Gray and gray-green - such a color does not change the colors of the surrounding objects, which makes it easier to judge the distance.
- Yellow and orange - improves the contrast of vision on a cloudy day. The degree of tinting of the glasses is also important. Sufficient protection is provided by those colored in 70-75%, but in strong sunlight - even in 90%.
A way to eliminate glare
However, regular sunglasses do not fully protect your eyes. This is ensured by glasses with an anti-reflective coating and a polarizing filter. Polarizing lenses neutralize glare from light, e.g. from water, sand or wet asph alt, at the same time increase the contrast and emphasize the colors, but without distorting them.
On the other hand, the anti-reflective coating prevents light from reflecting off the glasses and, as a result, from the eye. It does not change the contrast and colors of the image. It is often applied to the back of the slide to reduce light from the side of the glasses and thus sharpen the image.

Sunglasses protect against disease
The sun's rays, getting into the eye, can cause many diseases, such as:
- cataract
- pterygium
- melanoma
- macular degeneration, the part of the eye that is responsible for recognizing details
Excess sunlight can also cause conjunctivitis - it is manifested by redness, tearing and burning of the eyes. In conjunctivitis, relief from tea essence or anti-inflammatory drugs will provide relief, but these must be recommended by an ophthalmologist.
Let's not forget about the diet that strengthens the eyes. In summer, eat blueberries, spinach, broccoli, and lettuce.
Sunglasses: Smart Lenses
This is called photochromes that react to ultraviolet light automatically and instantly brighten (to full transparency) or darken, depending on the intensity of UV rays. This allows you to wear glasses all day long without changing them to sunglasses or vice versa.
