Baikal skullcap (Baikalin) is a plant that, due to its he alth properties, was used in traditional medicine of the Far East hundreds of years ago. In China and Japan, Baikal skullcap tincture or infusion was used, among others in fever, viral diseases, allergies and asthma. Modern research confirms that Baikal skullcap has potential he alth properties. Some even recommend its use as an aid in the treatment of many diseases.

Baikal skullcap(LatinScutellaria baicalensisGeorgi), otherwisebaicalin , it's a plant which, due to itshe alth properties, wasusedin traditional Far Eastern medicine hundreds of years ago. For many years, Baikal skullcap has been used in the form of an infusion of dried root, e.g. against asthma attacks, allergies, inflammation of the digestive system, treatment of diarrhea caused by sticksShigella(bacterial dysentery), treatment of fungal diseasesCandida albicansand viral diseases . Preliminary studies confirm that the substances contained in Baikal thyroid root extracts are indeed anti-inflammatory and can fight microbes. In addition, they show anti-cancer properties and stimulate the immune system. It is believed that the multidirectional action of the Baikal skullcap roots is related to the presence of genusScutellariafl specific avonoids. Among them, the most important are baicalein, baicalein, vogonoside and wogonin. The shredded root of the 2-3-year-old Baikal skullcap contains over 40 of them. Flavones can also be found in the flowers of this plant - it is they who give them an intense, purple color.

Baikal thyroid can help heal cancer

These conclusions were reached by British scientists from the John Innes Center in Norwich, together with specialists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. All thanks to the flavones present in the plant, but not those found in the root, but in the flowers. Flavones have anti-cancer properties (they stimulate the death of cancer cells) and could be used in oncology.

Baikal skullcap occurs onin the areas of eastern Russia (near Lake Baikal), Mongolia, China, Korea and Japan. Scutella means "shield" in Latin, implying "protection".

This is confirmed by other scientists who, in laboratory experiments on mice, found inhibition of the growth of squamous cell carcinoma cells in the head and neck by the tested plant extractScutellaria baicalensis.² Beneficial effects of the extract from Baikal thyroid was also observed after its administration to patients with lung cancer. It has also been shown that the aqueous extract of this plant has a cytotoxic effect on HL-60 human myeloid leukemia cells .¹

Baikal skullcap (baicalin) regenerates and protects the liver

The root of the Baikal thyroid gland has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in the course of viral hepatitis and in other viral diseases (e.g. flu, colds), because it can fight these pathogens. It is now known that Baikal skullcap owes these properties to the content of flavonoids - baicalein and baicalein, and to a lesser extent to wogonin.

Baikal thyroid tincture calms and lowers blood pressure.

Baikal skullcap (Baicalin) can prevent atherosclerosis and blood clots

Flavonoids contained in the Baikal thyroid lead to lowering the level of cholesterol in the blood and protect the endothelial cells of blood vessels against the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. They also have a beneficial effect on the activity of platelets, making it difficult for them to stick together.

Baikal thyroid in diseases of the oral cavity

Preparations based on the Baikal thyroid can be used as an aid in the treatment of gum diseases, in chronic inflammation of the oral mucosa, in injuries caused by dentures, and to prevent periodontal diseases. Baikal skullcap can fight many bacteria, includingStaphylococcus mutans², which are the main cause of tooth decay. In addition, Baikal skullcap has fungicidal properties, so it can be used as an auxiliary in the treatment of oral mycosis.

Baikal skullcap (Baikalin) for acne and skin irritations

Baikal skullcap can be used as a supplement to the therapy of skin inflammations and in the course of acne (maculopapular acne). In addition, it can be used as a soothing agent for skin irritations (including intimate areas).

Baikal skullcap (Baikalin) protects against the harmful effects of the sun

Baikal skullcap protects against the harmful effects of sunlight. The flavonoids contained in it act as a radiation absorbing agentUVA and UVB. Baikal skullcap extracts can be found in some sunscreen creams.
