I received a referral to a sanatorium as part of disability prevention. Who will issue me a sick leave and when?

A GP may issue a medical certificate to the patient if the patient goes to a sanatorium as part of ZUS prevention.

The ZUS certifying doctor may also decide about the need for medical rehabilitation by checking the correctness of adjudicating on temporary incapacity to work due to illness and issuing medical certificates, as well as by adjudicating on the extension of the period of receiving sickness benefits. It is worth noting that the full cost of rehabilitation, including in particular the costs of treatment, accommodation and nutrition, is covered by ZUS. ZUS also reimburses the costs of travel to the rehabilitation center from the place of residence and back - up to the price of the cheapest public transport ticket.

ZUS carries out tasks in the field of disability prevention, including medical rehabilitation pursuant to Art. 69 of the Act of 13 October 1998 on the social insurance system (Journal of Laws of 2013, item 1442 as amended).

It is worth knowing that in the case of working people, the stay in a spa facility is part of a holiday leave. After submitting a referral to the locally appropriate branch of the National He alth Fund and qualifying for the appropriate sanatorium, the patient is informed about the waiting time for the trip for which he applied for. It is therefore a benchmark for planning your vacation in advance. The exception is the form of treatment in a spa hospital and rehabilitation for adults in a spa hospital, where the stay takes place under a sick leave, which is issued by the he althcare provider after the end of treatment.

Legal basis: Act of 13 October 1998 on the social insurance system (Journal of Laws of 2013, item 1442 as amended) Regulation of the Minister of He alth of 24 August 2012 amending the regulation on guaranteed benefits in the field of spa treatment (Journal of Laws of 2012, No. 8, item 971)
