I have astigmatism and amblyopia in my left eye. It turned out that I cannot see binocularly and apparently nothing can be done. Should I go on wearing glasses? The doctor said it was the result of neglect in early childhood, but I have been wearing glasses since I was 4 and had my eye covered and my vision remained. Can the defect get worse? Is there a possibility of laser correction?

Amblyopia is caused by an abnormal development of the optic nerve. In early childhood, attempts can be made to treat amblyopia (covering the better eye and other methods), often such actions bring the desired effect. However, if the amblyopia remains in an adult, there is nothing that can be done about it. Laser correction of a vision defect in a visually impaired eye will allow the patient to see with this eye in the same way as in the best spectacle correction used so far.
