Cane corso italiano is a breed used for guarding for centuries. Nowadays they play the popular role of guard dogs. Owning this dog comes with a responsibility - a badly behaved Cane Corso can be dangerous for the owner and the environment. What does the cane corso look like and what is its character?

The racecane corso(full namecane corso italiano ) belongs to the moloss group.

Cane corso italiano comes from the southern part of the Apennine peninsula - according to some sources it comes from the ancient molossians that accompanied the Romans during their conquests.

Cane Corsos also performed in ancient circus arenas taking part in fights.

The origin of the name some associate with the word cohors, meaning guardian, guardian, other possible etymologies associate it with the word meaning wild. Both proposals, however, refer to the purpose with which the breeding of this breed was associated.

Cano corso has always been used for hunting and guarding wild animals.

Cane corso: appearance

Cane Corsos are large, muscular dogs. Males reach a height of 68 cm at the withers and females up to 64 cm.

The silhouette of this breed is muscular and strong, as well as elegant. The cane corso limbs are also muscular and strong, and agile when moving. The dog's head is large and wide.

The cane corso hair is short, shiny, thick, easy to care for.

As far as the color is concerned, it is varied. So we have black, gray (with various shades of gray, graphite, slate, light gray, fawn), reddish, similar to the color of a deer, and brindle.

Cane corso: character and behavior

Cane Corso is a breed of great temperament, faithful and very devoted to the family. A well-developed sense of observation and distrust make these animals a reliable guardian and protector.

The Cane Corso is hearty and effusive, reminiscent of ( although much calmer) boxers.

Easily adapts to a new home and is friendly towards all household members. His relations with children are also good, although due to the size of the dog, his strength, playing together should take place under the supervision of adults.

Cane Corso has no inborn predisposition to dominate, but in case of ineffective driving, he can tryto rule the family - in the wrong hands he will become dangerous. However, properly brought up, he will be calm and balanced.

Cane Corso accepts other dogs in his environment without any major problems, but it is better that they are not animals of the same strong personality as he is.

Representatives of this breed do not show aggression towards alien quadrupeds, unless provoked.

Interesting!

The cane corso dog is the type of athlete who doesn't like idleness. Tough and active, it requires a lot of movement and new tasks.

Cane corso: he alth

Cane Corso are hardy dogs that rarely get sick.

If we take care of them, we will eat he althy food, they should stay in good shape until old age.

Like all large dogs, they can be affected by hip dysplasia and a tendency to expand and twist their stomachs.

Sometimes there are also inflammations of the eyelid (this is the so-called ectropion).

Cane Corso: care and nutrition

Due to the short hair, the care of dogs of this breed is not too complicated.

You can easily brush your short, hard hair with a plastic brush or a glove with insets. Also, the bath should not be a big problem - let's do it when needed.

The feeding of this breed shouldn't be complicated either - the Cane Corso isn't picky. However, this does not mean that he can eat just anything. When trying to keep him in good condition, it is worth giving him a high-quality food. They can be both ready-made products, intended for dogs of large or giant breeds, and natural (meat, rice, vegetables). If we decide on the latter, we should ensure that they are supplemented with appropriate calcium and vitamin preparations that protect the joints. The daily portion should be divided into at least two meals.
