Varicose veins have or will probably have 3/4 Polish women. This is because there are so many complaints about the symptoms of venous insufficiency, which are the introduction to the formation of varicose veins: a feeling of heavy legs, swelling, a tingling feeling in the legs when they lie down. Over 80 percent Polish women know what causes vein problems and how to deal with it. But few of them do anything in this direction. Read the article, learn how to counteract venous diseases.

Varicose veins , which are a visible symptom of venous insufficiency, arise from immobility: sitting or standing for a long time. Varicose veins are also favored byhypertension ,overweight , smoking and hot baths. Almost every Polish woman knows it! And almost everyone knows that exercise is the best way to avoid illness. But only 8 out of 100 women engage in some form of physical activity.

Varicose veins is not only an aesthetic problem

Spider veins and extended blue veins on the legs are easy to underestimate. Varicose veins, i.e. soft, baggy convex venous plexuses, are very visible and clearly disfigure the legs. However, the appearance is the smallest problem in terms of varicose veins. Venous insufficiency causes leg pain and cramps. Discoloration appears on the skin, inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue occurs in various places on the legs. If left untreated, the skin around the ankles can harden and ulcerate the calves. On the inside of the ankles, hard-to-heal wounds open. The blood flow in the diseased veins is slower, which promotes the formation of blood clots. This, in turn, can lead to an obstruction, i.e. closure of the vessel's lumen, which is extremely dangerous. An equally dangerous complication of varicose disease is rupture of varicose veins, which can cause a very serious hemorrhage. The risk of varicose veins must not be underestimated!

Choose a good sport

People who do not have any problems with the vessels in their legs can exercise whatever is appropriate for their age and fitness level. However, if you are already suffering from swelling and your legs feel heavy, avoid exercise that overload them. The same goes for people who already have varicose veins.

What kind of sport for people who have problems with varicose veins?

How to avoid varicose veins

The best way is to prevent the dilatation of the veins in the legs, prevent the dysfunction of their valves and weaken the circulation. So you should take care of the correct weight and avoid hypertension. In addition, it is necessary to maintain proper circulation in the legs, which is disturbed by prolonged sitting and standing. Movement is necessary! For example, a daily march. Walking activates the natural muscle pump in the calves, improving circulation. Another way to stimulate blood circulation and vascular gymnastics is a simple exercise: lie on your back, lift your legs up and alternately bend and straighten them. A similar function is performed by a classic bicycle - that is, lying on the back, making movements such as when riding a bicycle.

Are you sitting? Lubricate the legs

In addition to the daily amount of exercise, it is worth taking care of the proper flexibility of the dishes differently. If you spend a lot of time sitting, use ointments and gels with ingredients that strengthen and elasticize the vessels and prevent swelling. One of such substances is diosmin. It reduces the expansion of the veins, strengthens their walls, and reduces the permeability of small capillaries. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties. There are two types of preparations on the market: with micronized and non-micronized diosmin. Micronized diosmin preparations are more modern, as they are absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract twice as fast. As a result, a better therapeutic effect can be achieved with a lower dose of the drug. The second important component of blood vessel strengthening ointments is horse chestnut extract, which also seals the walls of blood vessels. Both ingredients are present, for example, in Aflavic cream. If you have swelling or have a feeling of heavy legs after a whole day of work, it is also worth using diosmin in tablets. There are several supplements available in pharmacies that contain well-absorbed micronized diosmin, e.g. Aflavic, Diosminex, Diophespan.

Varicose veins treatment methods

If you haven't been able to avoid varicose veins, you should treat them. Both to get rid of already formed varicose veins, as well as avoid the next ones by changing the lifestyle and taking the preparations recommended by the doctor. Varicose veins can be removed by several methods. It is decided by the phlebologist or vascular surgeon together with the patient.

  • Thermal ablationotherwise RFITT (Radiofrequency Induced Thermotherapy) or CELON. The method consists in closing the vessel by heating its walls with a radio frequency current. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. A cannula is placed in the vessel, through which the guidewire is inserted into the vein, and the applicator through this guidewire to the place that needs to be closed. The applicator emits an appropriate portion of waves, and when the vessel is pulled out, it closes. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes. Compared to other methods, it gives less complications in the form of hematomas, scars or discoloration.
  • Sclerotherapy. Still the most widely used method. It consists in injecting diseased vessels with drugs that irritate the vessel walls. The irritated wall contracts and becomes fibrous, preventing blood flow. Within a few days or weeks, the vessel is no longer visible. After sclerotherapy, discoloration over the vessel may appear, which will disappear after about 6 months.
  • Laser varicose veins removal. In this method, the vessel is closed by laser light. A catheter is inserted into the vein and an optical fiber is inserted into the catheter. He has to get to the sick place. The doctor applies a laser shot and the vessel closes. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia, under ultrasound guidance, and takes approx. 45 minutes. After its completion, a pressure dressing is applied, which must be worn for two weeks.
