Diet is one of the factors supporting treatment. When you eat poorly, even the best drugs will not improve your he alth and stabilize your glucose levels. Diabetes mellitus is one of those diseases that absolutely require compliance with the principles of a proper diet.

Dietary recommendationsfor diabetics are the same as for everyone who cares abouthe althand a slim figure. They are included in the "code" of a he althy lifestyle developed by prof. Stanisław Berger, Polish nutrition physiologist. They were called the "7 U" principle.

1. Variety- the more varied the diet, the better. Meals should be composed of many different products: vegetables, grains, pulses, lean meats and fish are particularly desirable.

2. Moderate- eat only as much as your body needs. Any excess calories translate into weight gain, and the greater the weight, the greater the doses of drugs are needed. You need to determine the energy value of each meal with your doctor. It is especially important to control the amount of carbohydrates consumed once, because the effectiveness of drugs depends on it.

3. Regulating- you need to eat at fixed times to associate your meals with the medications you take. Such regularity also helps to burn calories well

4. Avoidingcertain foods is part of the diabetic diet. This mainly applies to foods that are high in animal fat and s alt. People with diabetes must avoid sweets and alcohol. In addition, white flour products should be replaced with wholemeal products.

5. Theskill in he althy food preparation relates especially to heat treatment. Even lean meat, breaded and fried or stewed in deep fat, is no longer he althy. It is best to stew, bake, grill or cook them. You also need to know how to prevent products from losing their nutritional value. Boil the vegetables briefly, and make the salads just before serving. The last two points of the "7U" rule no longer apply to diet. It's U-lawing sport and U-laughing.

Rutewica lowers sugar levels

Some plants contain substances that help restore normal glucose levels. Although they will not replace antidiabetic drugs, support the treatment. These are the properties of rutgee (Galega officinalis), a perennial of the legume family. It contains guanidine, which inhibits the penetration of sugar into the blood and reduces platelet aggregation, thus reducing the risk of vascular complications. The plant is rich in chromium s alts, and the deficiency of this element may affect the development of diabetes. Therefore, drinking an infusion of the herb rue (to be purchased from herbal stores) is especially recommended in prediabetes. People taking antidiabetic medications should consult their doctor about it.
