Hello. For years I have been suffering from extremely stressful and painful periods and although the ultrasound did not show any clear changes, the gynecologist in London suspects endometriosis (many symptoms would indicate it), claiming that you can only find out about it 100% during laparoscopy, but especially not recommended. Instead, I was encouraged to take birth control pills without a 7-day break (to prevent the appearance of any cysts, etc.). I must admit that I am skeptical about taking hormones, especially non-stop for a long time. Does this involve any risk? I heard the opinion of another doctor that a woman should have menstrual bleeding min. 4 times a year in order not to deprive the uterus of its natural "lining".
I agree with the approach to the problem of the first doctor. Laparoscopy may be offered to confirm endometriosis. However, we usually do not recommend this operation to patients without ultrasound changes. However, it is recommended to take tablets to reduce the severity of pain and inhibit the development of endometriosis. Failure to give your medication may worsen your condition and make it difficult to conceive in the future. If you are not planning a pregnancy in the near future, I think taking birth control pills is a good treatment.
