My wife is 60 years old, she is not obese. For 30 years she has had very large varicose veins on both legs, although over 20 years ago she underwent surgery to remove varicose veins. At present, leg aches are so bothersome that he cannot sleep. He believes there is no cure for it. Before falling asleep, it helps to lubricate her legs with a cooling horse ointment with chestnut. Are there any effective treatment methods for such extensive varicose veins? I also have a huge and painful varicose veins on my right leg from the ankle below the knee.

In your wife, a Doppler ultrasound should be performed to determine whether the failure affects the superficial or deep system, or does not have the features of the so-called post-thrombotic syndrome. Surgical treatment is also possible in the case of recurrent lesions. After the diagnosis, consultation with a vascular surgeon or phlebologist will be indicated in order to plan the treatment. In cases not amenable to surgical treatment, other methods of treatment are possible: compression treatment, oral medications, sclerotherapy. Treatment is planned individually. On the other hand, you seem to be an unambiguous candidate for surgery.
