My son is 3 and a half years old. So far, he does not pronounce "d" and "t" and actually converts them to "g" and "k" respectively. Is this a serious defect that should be treated by a speech therapist or will it pass by itself?

Most likely, the son has kappacism (faulty realization of the k-sound) and gammacism (faulty realization of the g-letter). These speech impediments are quite easy to correct, although an appointment with a speech therapist is necessary. This kind of distortion of sounds does not pass by itself, you need to start appropriate exercises.
