I have a big problem with my 17-year-old daughter, I can't communicate with her. My daughter is very aggressive towards me and my husband - we cannot forbid her anything, because she blackmails us that she does something to herself or runs away from home, calls us names, throws what she has at hand behind us, screams at every step she lies, comes home late, does what she likes, without telling us, for example, that she is going to a friend's. He screams over and over that he hates us. She doesn't care about the family. Everything is allowed for her, because she has the right, and no duties … I am begging you, help me, because I do not know what to do. We are a normal full family.
Hello, Jolu! If it is so that until recently you had parental authority and good relations with your daughter, and now the described situations are happening, I would advise you to discuss this topic more extensively with a psychiatrist dealing with youth (preferably a family therapist). Aggression can have various causes. It is caused by the nervous system, which is of interest to neurologists and psychiatrists. The psychiatrist, in cooperation with psychologists, after a broader understanding of the situation, will guide you. Before a full diagnosis can be made, you will probably need a psychological examination of your daughter and a series of interviews with the teenager and the parents. If you want to rebuild ties with your daughter and help her continue to function reasonably, do not delay your visit to the doctor. Go without your daughter first so that you can talk freely. Look for psychiatrists at the Mental He alth Clinic for children and adolescents and similar clinics at hospital psychiatric wards. Regards. B.
