According to the reimbursement procedure and the manufacturers' expectations, the hearing aid should serve us for 5-6 years. For this to happen, it must not only be properly used, but also maintained. How do I clean my hearing aid?

Some hearing impaired people find thata hearing aidmakes their sense of hearing lazy. It's not true. The device amplifies sounds and thus stimulates the cells of the hearing organ to work better. Modern hearing aids adjust themselves to the needs of a hearing impaired person. They allow us to use cell phones, hands-free kits, go to concerts, communicate in the buzz of the street, etc. They eliminate the sounds we hear from the general noise and amplify those we do not perceive. A well-tuned camera ensures that there are no crackles, squeaks, noise, and the sound quality is natural. However, it is necessary to match it to the type of hearing loss, and when it is greater than 40 decibels, we are en titled to two hearing aids - for the left and right ear.

Washing and drying

The most common hearing aids are BTEs with an insert placed in the external ear canal or those that are placed entirely in the external ear canal. Regardless of the type, the device is exposed to moisture because this is the environment in the ear. Moisture is perceived by the patient as a distortion of sound or crackles. In order for the hearing aid to work in the best possible conditions, the ear should be cleaned of earwax on a regular basis. But beware: do not clean your ears with cotton buds - preferably when done by an ENT specialist. How often? Sometimes even once a month. It all depends on the individual's tendency to accumulate earwax and exfoliated epidermis, and the width of the ear canal. The narrower it is, the more often you need to remove earwax.

Two channels

Each hearing aid has two channels - ventilation and sound. When they are contaminated with, for example, earwax, the patient hears crackling sounds, which makes it difficult to understand speech. That is why the device should be washed once or twice a week - in a special liquid, or in water with soap or dishwashing liquid. Then you need to put it in a hygroscopic capsule (preferably overnight), which will absorb the moisture from the camera. You get the capsule when you buy the camera. There are also electronic devices for drying hearing aids, but for these you have to pay around PLN 300. Capsulehygroscopic costs only PLN 20. Wearers remember that before washing and drying the earpiece, it must be disconnected from the rest of the device.
