A copy of the prescription is a good solution when you want to buy all the medications that the doctor has written out on the prescription. However, not all drugs can be written off, and a pharmacist, when issuing a prescription, must follow a few rules. What does a prescription write-off look like and how to use it?

A copy of a prescription , issued by a pharmacist, is quite convenient for some patientsa form of filling a prescription , because they can buy so many packages at once as much as they currently need and the rest at a later date. Unfortunately, the write-off procedure is associated with many restrictions, which make the possibility of using it quite limited. In addition, a copy of the prescription allows you to buy the drug at a later date, but without a discount. That is why the write-offs issued for non-reimbursed drugs make the most sense - this way the patient does not lose anything.

Copy of prescription: only fully paid drugs

The pharmacist may issue a copy only for drugs marked with the symbol Rp, not belonging to lists III-P, IV-P and II-N. This means that the patient will not receive a write-off for the strongest psychotropic and narcotic drugs. A copy of the prescription may be issued only for fully-paid drugs - even if the prescription contained discounted drugs, the refund is no longer due after the copy is issued. Some pharmacies do not issue write-offs in the case of reimbursed drugs.

How long is the copy of the prescription valid

A copy of a prescription is valid as long as the original prescription is valid, i.e. an antibiotic or emergency prescription is only valid for 7 days, 90 days for contraceptives and 30 days for other medications. The deadline for fulfilling a prescription for imported drugs may be as long as 120 days, and prescriptions for immunological preparations, manufactured for an individual patient, do not exceed 90 days. The expiry date of the prescription is counted from the day following the date provided on the prescription.

Where can I get a copy of a prescription?

A copy of the prescription can be made only in the pharmacy where it was issued, because there is the prescription on the basis of which it was made.

When can a pharmacy refuse to collect a prescription?

The pharmacist is obliged to refuse to collect the excerpt if it was issued in another pharmacy, the prescription on the basis of which the excerpt was issued has expired, or an excerptwas drawn up incorrectly.

A transcript of the prescription can be printed out by the pharmacy computer system or written out manually by the pharmacist. The copies must always contain the data that the pharmacist prescribes from a doctor's prescription:

  • name, surname and address of the patient;
  • name, dose, form and amount of the drug, directions for use;
  • date of the copy's realization and the date of its issue, registration number;
  • details of the prescription physician, pharmacist details and the pharmacy.
