My wife and I had an ultrasound examination in the 26th week of pregnancy. After the examination, the doctor found the following: invisible cavity of the transparent septum, visible connection of the anterior horns of the lateral ventricles of the brain. The lateral ventricles of the brain of the posterior horns up to 8 mm wide. The rest was correct. The doctor advised to conduct an MRI with suspicion of septo-ocular dysplasia. Is there a chance for organs to develop properly in the later stages of pregnancy? Is such information at this stage reliable and what is the probability of this disease in a child with such data?

The clear septum cavity of the brain is the space between the two plaques of the transparent septum. This is an anatomical variant. It may or may not be irrelevant. It is believed that the posterior horns of the side chambers should be less than 10 mm (they are smaller in your child). I don't know on what basis the doctor suspects septo-ophthalmic dysplasia. This syndrome has a transparent septum atrophy, not a cyst. It is difficult to judge the ultrasound image if you do not see it, but from your description it seems that there is nothing to be concerned about. The child grows and develops all the time, and therefore, on the basis of one ultrasound examination, it is impossible to predict its disease or abnormal development.
