Mustard - how to recognize a good quality one?

Good quality mustard is made from mustard seeds and the addition of vinegar, s alt and sugar. The mustard seed itself has preservative properties, and enriched with vinegar, it does not require the addition of any chemical preservatives.

However, very often in the composition of commercial mustard you can find various preservatives (very often sulfites marked as E 220, E 227), dyes (E 102 tertrazine), and thickeners that reduce the quality of the mustard. Therefore, it is very important to read the labels before buying and choose a product that is as simple and natural as possible.

It's good to know that curcumin is a natural dye, often used to add a yellow tinge to mustard.

Mustard - price, where to buy?

Mustard is quite cheap. Its price depends primarily on the type of mustard and the producer. You will pay from 2 to 5 PLN for a small jar of mustard.

Mustard - storage

After opening, mustard should be kept in the refrigerator to keep it fresh for as long as possible (the mustard can stay in the refrigerator for up to six months). However, when mold appears on the surface or a watery-oily liquid begins to form on the surface, it means that the mustard is no longer fit for consumption.
