Colorectal cancer in Poland is diagnosed in 12,000 people every year, and 8,500 die of it. Colorectal cancer is a malignant growth of the mucosa that can develop in any part of the 150 cm long colon and about 10 cm of the rectum. The symptoms of colon cancer depend on where it grows.
Colorectal cancergives clear symptoms only in the very latestage of the cancer . Therefore, the appearance of at least one of the following symptoms should prompt you to talk to your doctor and perform tests. Also, never underestimate the appearance of blood in your stool.
Colorectal cancer in the ascending colon: symptoms
Colorectal cancer in the ascending colon (in the right half of the large intestine) shows the following symptoms:
- stool mixed with blood or dark,
- pains in the right lower abdomen,
- palpable lump in the right half of the abdomen,
- anemia
Colorectal cancer in the transverse area: symptoms
Colorectal cancer in the transverse region shows the following symptoms:
- stool mixed with blood,
- pains in the center of the abdominal cavity,
- anemia
Colorectal cancer in the descending colon: symptoms
Colorectal cancer in the descending colon, i.e. in the left part of the large intestine, gives the following symptoms:
- diarrhea alternating with constipation,
- bright red blood on the surface of the stool,
- variable bowel times,
- colic,
- flatulence,
- narrow (pencil-shaped) stool
Colorectal cancer in the sigmoid colon or rectum
Colorectal cancer in the final segment of the large intestine, i.e. in the sigmoid colon or rectum, gives the following symptoms:
- an admixture of bright red blood covering the stool,
- feeling of incomplete bowel movement,
- intestinal colic with the need to defecate,
- stomach pains,
- perineal pain
