Choosing the right dress for a mature lady is quite a challenge. Tailored cuts can expose the shortcomings of the figure too much, and too loose - optically add centimeters. So how do you find a golden mean to present yourself favorably, young and, above all, modern? You can read about it below.
How to choose a dress for the type of figure?
Both young and mature ladies have similar rules when it comes to choosing a dress to match the type of figure. Here are the most important of them:
- Figure of the hourglass type - especially desirable, because it stands out due to the proportionality of the top and bottom, and above all, an attractive, well-defined waistline ("wasp" silhouette). Therefore, it is worth emphasizing these advantages and choosing the dress in such a way that it just marks the waist line and fits well around the shoulders, bust, as well as hips and thighs. Of course, pleated and flared dresses will work just as well, in which you can feel more freely. Actually, any typeface will look great on an "hourglass".
- Pear-type figure - it is characterized by wider hips and narrower shoulders. Therefore, it is crucial to level these disproportions. Slightly flared dresses allow you to mask larger hips, buttocks and belly. More pronounced decorative accents at the top are also important, such as puffed sleeves, frills, colorful applications, small patterns (they optically add centimeters). Very fashionable lace works great at the top. It is also worth paying attention to the neckline - boat or square cuts are recommended.
- An apple-like figure - unlike in the case of a pear, the shoulders and bust are usually the widest, and the hips - a bit narrower (or relatively proportionate to the top, but they are accompanied by smaller buttocks). A slightly protruding belly can also be a common problem. What dresses for mature people should be put on with such a silhouette? Delicate, optically light fabrics such as silk, chiffon, thin cotton or airy linen will work well. It is better not to choose heavy and bulky fabrics. Dresses cut under the bust are worth recommending, as well as those that show shapely legs (a frequent advantage of "apples"). Dresses without additional decorations (e.g. frills) are a good offer, as well as those that areoptically lengthen the figure - such as creations with vertical stripes.
- A figure of the column type - otherwise a rectangle or not very elegant "tomboy". This type of silhouette is distinguished by a weak waistline, as well as proportional top and bottom. A good proposition for the "column" are dresses with a fitted top and a gathered bottom. It is also worth marking the waist line as best as possible - fitted dresses, often enriched with a belt, are therefore an almost natural choice. Feminine curves will be well displayed with patterns such as polka dots, polka dots, as well as horizontal stripes and eye-catching prints. You just need to be careful not to disturb the up-down proportions too much, which in the case of "rectangles" are an important advantage of the figure. Let's also pay attention to the neckline - tears or v-neck will be good.
These four types of figure are the most common, although we can also find more detailed distinctions (such as a vase figure, a horn, an inverted triangle, a chalice, a cello).
How to choose a dress for the type of figure?
The offer of dresses for ladies 50+ and 60+ is unfortunately not particularly extensive. Therefore, it is easy to make mistakes - either choosing a dress that is too youthful or, on the contrary, "grandma's". Added to this are the specific requirements of mature ladies, who often try to mask the folds on the abdomen, wider thighs or chubby shoulders.
It is worth helping with the appropriate optical tricks, and at the same time avoiding too loose or oversize models, which will only add unnecessary centimeters. And what is the easiest way to mask the imperfections of the figure?
Shirring in strategic places, frills, frills and additional layers work well. If, however, the problem is thicker shoulders, it is worth choosing flared or puffed sleeves at the end, which will restore the right proportions.
Another thing are the colors - bright and cool (pastels, blue, green, violet) will not only "take away the age", but also optically slim the figure.
Patterns? Let's boldly use stripes (especially vertical ones to make you slimmer) and larger patterns. Scaled flowers will look much better than a small meadow.
Classic women's dresses - minimalism with an idea
The greatest allies of mature ladies are fashion classics and minimalism, but they must be treated creatively. It's not worth following the trends that change like a kaleidoscope - it's better to find your own style.
Classic women's dresses made of uniformly colored fabrics are always a good choice. Bright and vivid colors have the power to rejuvenate, moreover, they make even the complexion appear brighter andhe althier.
Avoid dark, gloomy colors - it is a common mistake of women aged 60+ that they only choose such shades. Strong browns, burgundy and blacks do not necessarily rejuvenate, but even add years.
Red, for example, makes you feel attractive, catches the eye, is always fashionable and quite universal. White, creams, delicate beiges and pastels work in a similar way. For more expressive colors, it is worth reaching for turquoise, emerald green, sapphire - these are cool colors, and at the same time vivid and dynamic.
Remember not to overexpose the neckline and legs. Knee length or longer dresses are the safest choice.
Classics are also perfect for patterns - polka dots, stripes, checkered, floral motifs. Be careful with houndstooth and other small, strong patterns, because they can add too much centimeters.
