Phlebologists are doctors who carry out detailed diagnostics of venous vessels. Depending on the diagnosis, the phlebologist suggests appropriate treatment of spider veins, varicose veins or phlebitis.
Many women are ashamed to show their legs. Often this is caused byvaricose veins .Flebologcan diagnose the condition of the venous system, recommend appropriate tests, and propose treatment that will help prevent the development of venous diseases such as varicose veins. That is why it is worth going for a phlebology consultation at the first symptoms, such as a feeling of heaviness in the legs or spider veins.
Varicose veins - symptoms that signal problems with the veins
The appearance of varicose veins is evidence of the development of chronic venous insufficiency. It is a progressive and irreversible disease. It causes a feeling of heaviness in the limbs that increases in the evening hours and disappears in the morning. Then there is inflammation of the skin and the so-called spider veins (telangiectasia). The disease is signaled by the more difficult swelling around the ankles, and then the entire lower leg. The next symptoms concern skin trophic changes, i.e. discoloration, eczema, induration, which most often appear around the ankles. The symptom of advanced disease is visible varicose veins throughout the limb, especially spider veins around the ankles.
Phlebology consultation and varicose veins treatment
Currently, varicose veins can be treated not only with surgery, but also with multiple injections. In diagnostics, Doppler ultrasound examination is recommended. It is painless and non-invasive. It allows you to very precisely detect the site of damage to the venous valves. In the surgical procedure, the aim is to be as invasive as possible, using a technique called miniphlebectomy, which consists in local removal of varicose veins by mini-cuts, 2-5 mm. In this way, an inefficient vein is removed, which no longer fulfills its function. Other veins take over. The network of veins is constructed in such a way that the superficial system can be closed, and the blood will find an outlet through other veins anyway.
Sclerotherapy in the treatment of vein diseases
It is a technique that involves injecting substances into the varicose veins in order to close and overgrow the vessels, thanks to which the varicose veins are absorbed. These treatments are painless, effective, and notexclude from professional life. They are performed in series, preferably every 2 weeks. The number of treatments depends on the extent of the lesions. The entire treatment process usually takes 2-3 months. Varicose veins are slowly absorbed. You should be aware of the possibility of bruising, which will disappear completely after some time. After the procedure, special compression stockings should be worn for several days. Recently, the newest technique, the so-called sclerotherapy under ultrasound control. In this case, a special foam is injected instead of the liquid, which is more effective because its lower concentrations have a stronger effect on the vessel wall and constrict it more. It is mainly used with larger veins. Thanks to the ultrasound technique, it is possible to inject foam into the veins that we cannot see with the naked eye and close the deeper veins which - as shown by previous examination - have damaged valves.
