My sister suffered from this disease for 10 years, she was in a psychiatric hospital. My mother was treated for vegetative neurosis for many years, but she did not take any medications. The father was an alcoholic. I am traumatized, I suffer from depression, and I am treating myself from neurosis. It often happens to me - especially in the course of emotions - that I talk to myself, move my lips unconsciously, and make faces (which was even noticed by my children). Is it possible that I have a hereditary predisposition to mental illness and may I also develop schizophrenia? Should I start treatment in this direction so that it won't be too late?

Please don't worry. Such behavior is common and is not a sign of any harm. Schizophrenia is something more serious, and it's good to know that such a diagnosis does not prove anything, is a myth. Certain people can get sick very differently or only occasionally. Some predispositions to disorders can be inherited, which - if they do occur - are usually not a copy of the parental ones, but fall within a broader spectrum. We all have hereditary predispositions to various disorders, in order for them to manifest themselves, there must be various conditions, not only genetic, but also environmental and situational.
