I would like to know what is the likelihood of relapse (in the form of a psychotic episode) in patients while taking medication? I am also interested in what effects are assumed to be achieved by drugs taken in schizophrenia: to block the occurrence of positive or negative symptoms as well? And why is taking them so important?
After a psychotic episode, it is recommended to take medications for various lengths, and after a few episodes - indefinite. When the right dose is taken and adjusted to the current mental state, the possibility of psychosis returning is radically reduced. The extent to which negative symptoms will be reduced, and to what extent positive symptoms will be reduced, depends on the type of drug and the body's response.
Taking your medication is so important to prevent relapse. Patients often think that it is unnecessary, and even harmful - because when they stop taking drugs, they start to feel better. But briefly … Then the disease, intensive treatment, and even the hospital often come back. It doesn't pay off!
