Lactobacillus - these are bacteria belonging to the group of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), they are a molecularly heterogeneous microbiological group. Lactobacillus comes from the Lactobacillaceae family and includes about 100 species and 27 subspecies isolated from human and animal mucous membranes, found mainly in the mouth and intestines, but are not components of the human skin flora. They are often difficult to identify microbiologically.
Lactobacillus sp. Bacteria belong to the group of gram-positive, non-spore-forming and relatively anaerobic bacteria, but they can live in aerobic conditions. They ferment glucose and are catalase-negative bacteria. Lactobacillus can be purchased in the form of capsules with probiotic properties.
Composition
Oral capsule(Lactobifid, Microbiom-Intercell) contains the active ingredient: bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus along with others and auxiliary substances.
Vaginal capsule(Lactovaginal) contains the active ingredient: live lactic acid bacteria of the Lactobacillus rhamnosus strain.
Excipients: skimmed milk powder, sucrose, sodium L-glutamate, potato starch, magnesium stearate, mannitol and the ingredients of the capsule: gelatin and titanium dioxide.
Action
The activity of lactic acid bacteria is related to their ability to break down proteins and fats in the human digestive tract. In the human digestive system, Lactobacillus perform several functions important for the host:
- production of antibacterial substances (lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide),
- adherence and competition for adhesion receptors with pathogens,
- competition with possible pathogens for nutrients
- and stimulation of the immune system by producing IgA antibodies.
In addition, some (Lactobacillus reuterii) show the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and protozoa by producing reuterin (3-hydroxypropanol) in the intestines. Consumption of products containing the so-called probiotics improves, both quantitatively and qualitatively, the microbiota of the human gastrointestinal tract.
Application
Lactobacillus has been used in the treatment and prevention of diarrhea of various origins, in improving intestinal peristalsis and in the treatment of inflammation of the vaginal mucosa.
Indications
The use of the drug is recommended:
- during and after antibiotic therapy,
- in the treatment of intestinal diseases,
- to restore or supplement the normal vaginal flora,
- in inflammation of the reproductive organs,
- after treatment with antibacterial, anti-trichomonas and antifungal drugs
- or if there is a vaginal discharge.
Contraindications
Do not use the drug if you are allergic to Lactobacillus or if you are allergic to any of the modules listed in the composition of the drug.
