Permethrin action
Permethrin in close contact with an insect reveals its insecticidal effect. The mechanism of action of the drug is based on paralysis of the parasite's nervous system by extending the opening time of sodium channels in the cell membrane of the insect's neuron.
Increased influx of sodium ions disrupts the conduction of nerve impulses between the insect's neurons, leading to muscle contraction, paralysis and death.
Permethrin is more toxic to insects as they cannot break down the drug as quickly as humans.
