Teeth treatments: veneers
If your front teeth have unsightly grooves, small cracks or worn edges, you can improve their appearance by installing veneers. These are thin (0.2-1 mm thick) porcelain plates that stick to the outer surface of the teeth, which allows you to hide their aesthetic defects.
Veneers can also correct the shape of the teeth (lengthen them, widen them) or eliminate gaps between them. Porcelain veneers are applied to individual teeth or entire groups of teeth that require correction or to maintain the aesthetic continuity of the smile.
Before that, you have to heal and whiten your teeth. Usually 2-4 visits are needed to get the dream look, because it is necessary to make impressions, prepare the so-called wax-up, i.e. mock-ups of a new smile, temporary veneers, and then permanent ones.
They are glued to polished teeth (sometimes it is enough to tarnish the enamel) with cement, which is hardened with a special lamp. After wearing veneers for 24 hours, you must not eat colored products (cherries, soy sauce, dark fruit juices, cola), and then avoid biting off very hard pieces of food.
Veneers stay on the teeth for up to several years - a lot depends on the quality of the enamel, bite, tooth hygiene, and harmful habits (e.g. biting pencils).
Teeth treatments: teeth straightening
When they are crooked, they not only look unsightly, but can make caries treatment difficult and increase the risk of periodontal disease. They are also the cause of, among others headache or degenerative changes in the temporomandibular joint.
The appliance will be useful in straightening inclined and crowded teeth, in closing gaps between teeth or in preparing the place for implants.Bite correction rejuvenates the face, because its shape changes favorably after treatment, and the skin has better support, thanks to which wrinkles are formed more slowly.
Before inserting the braces, the stone must be removed and the teeth healed, and then a treatment plan should be established at the orthodontist. The choice of the type of braces (fixed or removable) depends on the malocclusion. Permanent (classical or self ligating) can be placed on the outside of the teeth or on the side of the tongue (lingual).
Treatment lasts from several months to over 2 years. Regular check-ups are necessary so that the doctor can assess the progress of the treatment and regulate the strength of the braces on the teeth. After removing the braces, a retention braces (fixed or removable) are worn throughout their lives to fix the new tooth arrangement.
Teeth treatments: professional cleaning
Often the mere removal of unsightly plaque and tartar is enough to brighten your smile. So let's go to the dentist for scaling and sandblasting. The treatments are complemented by polishing the enamel, which protects it against the rapid deposition of a new bloom.
After cleaning the teeth, you need to look at the fillings - those placed a few years ago may have discolored, while amalgam (containing mercury) changes the color of the enamel and raises aesthetic and he alth doubts. Therefore, it is worth replacing them so that the teeth have a uniform shade.

Marcelina:First, I made an appointment for a consultation, during which the dentist checked whether my teeth and gums were he althy, and the hygienist cleaned my teeth of plaque and tartar. I was warned that the bleaching agent does not work on the fillings, so if I had them in the smile zone, I would have to replace them (similarly with crowns and veneers, luckily I don't have them).
During the next visit it was possible to perform the procedure. First, the hygienist smeared my lips with oily lipstick, put on a device (retractor) that stabilizes the opening of the mouth, secured the gums with a special preparation, also covered the skin around my mouth and put on glasses.
Then, on the front surface of the teeth, she applied a whitening gel with hydrogen peroxide (concentration selected by the doctor) and irradiated them with a special lamp that accelerates the action of the preparation. She repeated this session three more times (every 15 minutes).
The treatment was not painful, only the teeth were a bit oversensitive for a few more days. I was warned this was a normal reaction. Afterwhitening, the dentist gave me a set of overlays with a gel with a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide to be used overnight for several weeks to extend and stabilize the effect of the treatment.
She also recommended that I follow a "white diet" for 3 days, with no food or drink that could stain my enamel. The teeth look fantastic, I hope this effect will last for about 2 years.
Teeth treatments: home brightening
The easiest way to remove slight discoloration from teeth is to use whitening toothpastes. They contain abrasives that mechanically remove sediment, and special brightening enzymes. It is worth choosing a paste suited to the type of discoloration (after coffee, tea, nicotine), then their removal will be more effective.
Look for information about the abrasion index (RDA) on the packaging - whitening toothpastes usually exceed 80, and may even be 194. For this reason, they are not always suitable for everyday use, because they can damage the enamel. Therefore, it is best to use the whitening toothpaste alternately with the regular one.
There are also whitening toothpastes that protect against tooth sensitivity or gum problems at the same time.
In addition to the whitening toothpaste, it is also worth using a special brush with rubber tabs in the center of the head to remove discoloration and polish the surface of the teeth.
A good complement to your care is whitening mouthwash, which helps remove stains and prevents the formation of plaque.
