I have noticed symptoms of social phobia for a long time. I have huge problems speaking in a larger group. I can only do it with my closest friends. How could I overcome this? Is it possible to cure a phobia on your own, without the help of a psychologist?

I would advise you not to treat your troubles as illnesses and talk about recovery. It's definitely worth working on, but it's easier when it's not being treated too dramatically. The help of a psychologist can be useful, especially to avoid mistakes that could aggravate the problem. But you can also try to work independently, based on the appropriate knowledge on the subject. It is important not to try to overcome this fear. Rather, tame him, try to understand, discover what is at risk, what your fears protect (e.g. imagine what you would do if you suddenly stopped being afraid?). Good luck.
