I'm 33 years old. I am six weeks after Hynes-Anderson right-way Hynes-Anderson surgery, insertion of a JJ catheter. I had an ultrasound today and the doctor didn't see that JJ catheter in the ureter. Is it possible? It was definitely on because I had X-rays done four days after the surgery and you could see that it was there. Plus, I still have kidney congestion. Is this normal?

The JJ catheter may not be visible in the ureter, but one end of the catheter should be visible in the pelvis and the other end in the bladder. The term urinary retention is imprecise - the doctor performing the examination should provide the dimensions of the pelvis, especially the AP dimension. This allows you to assess whether the stagnation is the same as before the operation, greater or whether it has a downward trend. Greater stagnation indicates a postoperative complication related, for example, to the advancement of the JJ catheter.
