Some sources say that barley flakes are recommended for people with hypertension. Is it true, and if so, what makes it so? Because certainly not the ratio of sodium to potassium, which is quite unfavorable in this cereal …
Conversely - barley flakes are not recommended as a product beneficial for people with arterial hypertension! All types of flakes - whether they are barley or corn, are an industrially processed product, and any such treatment involves the addition of sodium ion, which raises blood pressure. Originally, in 100g of barley (i.e. in a product with a simple production technology) there are 4 mg of sodium and 264 mg of potassium. The situation changes dramatically when flakes are made of barley grains - then 100 g of flakes will contain as much as 651 mg of sodium and 388 mg of potassium. So, as a result of the technological process, the sodium content will increase as much as 162 times! The general rule of nourishing a person with hypertension is this - the less processed the product, the he althier it is. This, unaware, because it is located in places other than the s alt shaker, the sodium ion causes hypertension in most modern people - as much as 80% of the sodium ion comes from extra-s alt sources, and only 20% from the s alt shaker.
