Symptoms of a miscarriage can vary and depend primarily on the age of your pregnancy. If you notice any disturbing symptoms: spotting, bleeding or lower back or lower abdominal pain, don't panic right away. Often these are just natural symptoms of a developing pregnancy, but always require consultation with a doctor. What are the symptoms of a miscarriage?

Symptoms of miscarriagemay be of varying severity. They depend on the age of pregnancy and the stage of the miscarriage. The stronger they are, the worse the prognosis for pregnancy is. However, it should be remembered that similar symptoms may also accompany a properly developing pregnancy. The doctor decides whether the pregnancy is at risk of miscarriage after examining the patient.

Imminent miscarriage: symptoms

Symptoms of imminent miscarriage are:

  • genital spotting
  • vaginal bleeding
  • pain in the lower abdomen
  • pain in the area of the cross

A threatening miscarriage is the separation of the fetal egg in a small section. It is possible to use conservative treatment by the pregnant woman (e.g. lying down), but when uterine bleeding and contractile activity continue, the prognosis for pregnancy is poor.

Miscarriage in progress: symptoms

The symptoms are the same as for a threatening miscarriage, but the pain, both in the lower abdomen and in the lower back, is intense, rushing, like contractions. An ongoing miscarriage leads to pregnancy loss.

Late miscarriage: symptoms

Late miscarriage is a situation when a child is lost after the 13th week of pregnancy, i.e. after the end of the 1st trimester of pregnancy. After approximately 16 weeks of pregnancy, when the placenta is formed, the fetal egg is excreted in two stages, i.e. the course of the miscarriage is similar to that of childbirth (after the 20th week of pregnancy it is more often referred to as stillbirth). Late pregnancy loss is more like the process of childbirth, and its first symptoms are:

  • genital bleeding
  • cramps in the lower abdomen
  • departure of the amniotic fluid

Complicated miscarriage: symptoms

Sometimes a miscarriage may also be accompanied by other symptoms:

  • fever (over 38 degrees C)
  • endometritis
  • adnexitis
  • chills
  • muscle aches
  • neck stiffness
