The Quick (prothrombin) index shows the time after which specially prepared blood clots. It is the ratio of the normal prothrombin time to the prothrombin time determined in the case studied. The norm is between 70-100 percent.
The determination of the prothrombin index time -inr pt- is the basic test used in monitoring treatment with oral anticoagulants (vitamin Kantagonists ). This
test is also very important in the diagnosis ofliverdiseases, as well as congenital and acquired bleeding disorders.
When should the prothrombin index time be determined?
- after surgery
- in case of leg or pelvic fractures
- after deep vein inflammation and thrombosis in the leg
- in pregnant women and immediately after childbirth
- in women taking oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy
- in obese women with massive varicose veins
- in people with cancer
Normal Prothrombin Time (Quick Index)
Properly performed prothrombin time is 12-18 seconds at 37 degrees C.
As evidenced by the increase in prothrombin time
- chronic diseases of the liver parenchyma
- vitamin K deficiencies
- taking oral anticoagulants
- disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome
- severe fibrinogen deficiency
- leukemia
- uremia
- Addison-Biermer disease
- taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
As evidenced by the shortening of the prothrombin time
- thrombosis
- thrombophilia
- increased factor VII activity
- also appears in the perinatal period
