The diet for multiple myeloma does not differ significantly from the general dietary recommendations for cancer patients. The exception is the rule that patients with multiple myeloma should avoid high doses of vitamin C. Check the diet for multiple myeloma, what you can eat and what foods are prohibited.

Dietwithmultiple myeloma , which is a malignant bone tumor - similarly to a diet with other cancers - aims to optimally nourish the patient and maintain optimal body weight of the patient, alleviating the side effects of drugs and strengthening the patient's body. Thanks to this, it will help you to better endure strenuous therapy and recover faster.

Diet for multiple myeloma - rules. What can you eat?

Diet with multiple myeloma should provide the right amount of calories to meet the patient's energy needs, and basic nutrients needed for the proper functioning of the patient's body, such as wholesome protein, easily digestible carbohydrates, he althy fats, vitamins and minerals.

Patients should eat small portions, even 5-8 times a day.

The best sources of protein in the diet of a sick person will be dairy products, lean meat (preferably chicken, turkey, veal), eggs and fish (preferably sea). Milk and milk products are especially recommended because these products contain lactose, which increases the absorption of bone-strengthening calcium (which is very important in the diet of patients with multiple myeloma) and are characterized by an appropriate ratio of calcium to phosphorus (1: 1). Natural fermented milk products are also recommended because they contain yoghurt bacteria that increase the body's resistance.

In turn, the source of good fats will be oily sea fish, because they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which generally increase the body's immunity, protect against infections, inhibit the development of cancer and increase the effectiveness of therapy. Recommended are, among others salmon, herring, fresh mackerel, and halibut. Another good source of fat is linseed and canola oil, cold pressed, unrefined, consumed cold.

Important

Due to the risk of kidney damage, avoid high doses of vitamin C, mainly citrus fruits (and their juices). Be especially careful with grapefruits, as they may interact with medications.

When it comes to carbohydrates, reach for dark, whole grain bread (watch out for bread colored with caramel or containing dyes), brown rice, groats (buckwheat, barley), oatmeal, bran.

Virtually all vegetables are recommended, as well as legumes (e.g. peas, beans, lentils). Dark berries (e.g. blueberries, blueberries, cranberries, etc.) are especially recommended because they are a treasury of antioxidants that neutralize the effects of free radicals resulting from stress and the administration of strong medications.

The method of preparing meals is also extremely important - they should be boiled (in water or steamed), or baked.
