Acroyoga is a combination of positions known from classical yoga with elements of acrobatics and Thai massage. Sounds exotic? All you need is a properly stretched body, concentration and acroyoga can become your new passion, and at the same time an opportunity for great fun and muscle strengthening. What is the most important in acroyoga?

Although the elements that make upacroyoga , i.e. classical yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage, have been known for a long time, their combination into one discipline dates back to the 1990s, when in Barkeley, California (USA), the first school to teach this particular type of exercise was established.

What is acroyoga?

Sensuality, joy, trust, concentration, grace - it is not easy to describe acroyoga. The basis for the exercises is cooperation, because the acroyoga figures are performed in pairs, and at the beginning additionally with the help of a belayer. These exercises are based on the asanas known from classical hatha yoga, but are slightly modified to allow them to be performed smoothly in the air.

Acroyoga is a combination of the calmness of yoga, the beauty of acrobatics and relaxation flowing from Thai massage.

In acroyoga, one person takes on the role of the "base", that is the part of the duo whose task is to hold and lift the partner, most often with the use of arms and legs. The second person is called A "flying" person who, when lifted into the air, adopts postures based on asanas. In the first trainings, very often the "base" and "flying" ones are supported by a "spotter", i.e. a person who watches over the course of exercises. Importantly, people exercising in pairs or threes swap roles.

Important

You can enroll in acroyogi classes in most classical yoga studies. The cost of individual classes is about PLN 20-35 per hour of exercise.

How to start practicing acroyoga?

In acroyoga it is important to properly stretch the body. Performing asanas in the air requires a lot of flexibility and flexibility, but as acroyogi trainers say, it is intended for almost everyone, and the right form will come with time. Beginners whose body is not too flexible start classes with easier positions.

Small persons,Not having a lot of power, hearing about acroyoga often see themselves only in the role of a "flying". Nothing could be more wrong. Being a "base" is not related to physical strength, but to the muscle tension of both the lifter and the lifter. That is why mutual trust and cooperation are so important in acroyoga.

During the first acroyogi class we learn:

- how to fly in basic acrobatic positions;

- how to build trust in cooperation with a partner;

- how to relax in the air thanks to therapeutic positions;

- how to safely belay and be belayed;

Unfortunately, an obstacle in growing acroyogi may be too high body weight and problems with joints. Although the lifting in exercises is based mainly on muscle tension, they are a significant burden for the knees or wrists. Frequent training in the "baseline" role can cause injury. In turn a high body weight may make it impossible to "fly" - in this case a lot depends on the fitness of the person we train with.

Acroyoga is the perfect way to relax, but with a bit of fantasy. Exercises are effective, but also effective: they help to stretch the muscles, especially the spine, and regulate the work of the digestive and circulatory systems. In addition, acroyoga is a great proposition for couples, because it can be a way to strengthen bonds and really have fun. Importantly, acroyoga can be a nice change for people for whom traditional asanas are no longer a challenge.
