Recently, due to a very bad mental state, I am thinking about visiting a psychiatrist, but some time ago I heard that a student of the Medical University of any faculty cannot have psychiatric treatment in the history. Could you please give me information if there are any contraindications due to my studies and possible subsequent work with patients in the hospital that I should go to an appointment and possibly, if necessary, undergo treatment involving psychotropic drugs?
The mere treatment or a visit to a psychiatrist does not prevent the student from continuing his studies at the university. On the other hand, a negative he alth assessment performed by an occupational medicine physician may result in the inability to continue education. It is difficult to determine whether the psychotropic drugs that the student will take will be included in the canyon of eliminating him from further studies. In this respect, it is definitely worth visiting a psychiatrist and occupational medicine physician in order to realistically assess the effects of drugs and their impact on further education. It is worth knowing that if a medical certificate states that there are he alth contraindications for practicing and receiving practical vocational training, studies, qualifying vocational courses or doctoral studies, the doctor informs the examined person about the reasons justifying the issuance of such a certificate and enters the justification in the medical examination documentation of the examined person.
The doctor carries out a medical examination and takes into account: 1) assessment of possible or existing he alth hazards occurring in the place of practical vocational training, studies, qualifying vocational courses or doctoral studies; 2) the scope and frequency of preventive examinations of employees specified in the regulations issued on the basis of art. 229 § 8 of the Act of June 26, 1974 - Labor Code (Journal of Laws of 1998, No. 21, item 94, as amended); 3) work forbidden to adolescents specified in the regulations issued on the basis of art. 204 § 3 of the Act of June 26, 1974 - Labor Code.
Legal basis: REGULATION OF THE MINISTER OF HEALTH of 26 August 2014 on medical examinations of candidates for upper secondary or higher schools and for qualifying vocational courses, of students of theseschools, students, students of vocational qualification courses and participants of doctoral studies (Journal of Laws of 2014, item 1144)
