Burns are red spots on the skin underneath the nappy. At first they may be small, but after some time they spread over more and more areas of the skin. Burns occur when the skin comes in contact with the urine and faeces in the diaper for too long.

Chafingoccurs when the skin is in contact with, for example, a wetdiaperfor too long. Redness appears, which additionally begins to hurt and sting. Therefore, proper care is necessary: wash the skin with warm water without the addition of soap, gently dry it, and apply a thin layer of anti-chafing cream. After that, it is worth letting the baby lie down without a diaper (because fresh air speeds up the healing process).

Chafing: don't get diaper rash!

Chafes usually don't go away on their own: proper care is needed. If handled properly, they diminish within hours. You have to go to the pediatrician when the rash turns intodiaper dermatitis- in this case the skin under the diaper turns red, hot, blistered like a burn. To minimize the risk of chafing and diaper rash, baby should be changed frequently - usually once every three hours and immediately after the baby has pooped - and not delay it, even when the circumstances are not favorable (e.g. you are on a walk). Take a complete set of changing accessories with your baby. The minimum set is two diapers (one just in case), wet wipes, a foil bag for a used diaper, something to put under the baby's bottom - an oilcloth, a travel changing bag, and as a last resort a blanket or a diaper.

Chafing: lying down without a diaper

Lying down without a diaper (make sure to put something under the toddler's bottom - a foil tablecloth, an oilcloth - so that in the event of a small "accident" nothing will soak through it) also helps to avoid chafing. It is also worth paying attention to diapers - some of them have an air-tight coating, which may cause the pupa to chaf. If you use modern disposable diapers with a tubular system that absorbs urine and feces, do not overdo it with the amount of nappy rash cream - appliedon the skin with a thick layer, it clogs the channels, making urine and poop less soaked in the diaper, and this may result in frequent chafing.
