I have a very unpleasant and tiring "discomfort" - for some year I have been diagnosed with oesophageal reflux disease - I have been prescribed medications (gasprid, polprazole), but as soon as I stop taking them, the ailment returns. I try to follow a diet that is right for me, sleep on an elevated bed, but when I change my position, I feel the food pouring down into my esophagus. I know surgery is possible. Is it available to everyone (i.e. can only some special cases be operated?) Is this procedure possible privately?
The indications for surgical treatment should always be established by the surgeon, exactly by the surgeon from the ward or clinic that will undertake the operation. The answer to your question can therefore be obtained from a surgeon specializing in gastrointestinal surgery. I think that this type of operation is better to be performed in a large public hospital. Private hospitals usually have a well-defined operational offer, although the range of services has been expanding recently. You can find out whether the operation of esophagus-gastric reflex is reimbursed under the social insurance in your department of the Lower Silesian National He alth Fund.
