The type of training should be adapted to the level of mental stress, experts believe. After a day full of negative experiences, you should exercise very briefly, focusing only on your lower body, or not at all. Otherwise, it can lead to strong hormonal disorders, which can result, among others, in hearing impairment or tinnitus.
How do you recognize your tinnitus? These are intrusive noises such as crackling, ringing and squeaking sounds that are only heard by those with the condition. They are not a disease in themselves, but they significantly worsen the quality of life, very often even leading to serious nervous and anxiety conditions.
Patients are unable to rest, cannot focus, have sleep problems, and therefore are constantly irritated - sometimes they have to consult a psychotherapist. Worldwide, tinnitus is becoming an increasingly common condition that affects women as well as men, regardless of age.
- Globally 15 percent society has problems with tinnitus as a pathology of hearing. Unfortunately, the problem develops quite quickly in young people, we have a lot of patients between the ages of 20 and 40 - says Dr. Adam Pabiś, the news agency Newseria Biznes, a neurobiologist, audiologist at the Kinetic Center of Modern Audiology.
A sedentary lifestyle causes tinnitus
Tinnitus can be a symptom of a serious illness, incl. otosclerosis, a brain tumor or otitis media, but most often they are caused by damage to the auditory cells of the inner ear. As a result, the neurons in the cochlea work at a speed well above the normal 20-30 Hz.
- If a neuron begins to reach 80-90 Hz, it is literally a sound that we hear in the head, ear or ear. It is a noise generated by a population of neurons that has suddenly been cut off from stimulation - says Dr. Adam Pabiś.
Sudden hearing loss is the direct cause of tinnitus. It may take place, inter alia, as a result of severe stress, exposure to prolonged and violent noise, increased blood pressure, internal organism disorders due to improper diet or fluctuationshormonal or sedentary lifestyle leading to ischemia of the inner ear. Sudden hearing loss can also be the result of sudden physical stress, e.g. during inappropriate sports activity, especially when combined with mental stress.

Are you stressed? Go for a short upper body workout
- Amateur and poorly managed physical activity can contribute to tinnitus every day. We have a lot of mental stress and if someone has had a very difficult day at work and goes jogging in the evening, we already know that we can experience sudden hearing loss and tinnitus - says Dr. Adam Pabiś.
The human body has 100 percent. energy that during the day is spent on adaptation processes during mental and physical stress. As a result of a difficult day, full of nervous situations, the consumption of this energy can reach up to 80%. - each additional physical effort then causes the body to use up its energy reserves. This is done to the detriment of human well-being, as the metabolism slows down and the level of hormones changes. What's more, during physical activity, cortisol is secreted - a hormone whose task is to direct the blood to skeletal muscles.
- If there was a lot of cortisol due to mental stress and we go for a run, this is another cortisol discharge. And the excess of cortisol destroys the hearing cells, so it leads to sudden hearing loss and tinnitus, says Dr. Adam Pabiś.
To avoid hearing impairment, check your mental stress level before starting training. If it is high, physical activity should not last longer than a few minutes. It is worth choosing exercises that involve the lower muscles - they have a smaller amount of afferent innervation, which has a significant impact on the speed of cortisol release.
With low levels of mental stress, you can train longer and focus on your upper body. However, remember not to combine exercises of the lower and upper muscles, which leads to excessive production of cortisol, and avoid intervals.
- If we go jogging in the evening with headphones, we must remember that we can listen to music loudly until 8 p.m., nothing will happen, becausea lot of neurotrophic proteins are produced in the inner ear, but after 8 p.m. the proteins are produced in a very small amount and this is when acoustic injuries occur most often - says Dr. Adam Pabiś.
It is also worth remembering that overtraining, especially during aerobic training or, such as jogging and cycling, which is popular among Poles, where we do not adjust the level of physical stress to the level of mental stress during the day, can lead to strong hormonal disorders and thus increase the likelihood of inner ear ischemia and cochlear micro infarction.
