I am 18 years old and soon I will be wearing braces. Can I hope that pushing my lower teeth approx. 4 mm forward will gently eliminate the lisp? It is not very scary, but since I want to apply to a drama school, I would like to know if this apparatus can help. Will one hour of exercise with wine cork for about half a year every day bring a marked improvement?
The issue of the impact of braces on the quality of pronunciation is very different due to the adaptation of pronunciation to the new tooth arrangement. Oxygenation is not a self-correcting defect. You did not write what kind of defect it is and what sounds it concerns, because it is also an important matter. The defect is always corrected by speech therapy (exercises) and not orthodontically. The camera is only a support here. As for exercises with a stopper, it also depends on what kind of exercise it is and on which sounds. They do improve overall diction, but only if the starting point is correct pronunciation. In the case of defects (even the mentioned lisp), they can make it worse. I would suggest working with a speech therapist, independent exercises are not a very good solution. The more so that when you pass to the Theater School, you should have impeccable pronunciation.
