I have been treated for paranoid schizophrenia for 10 years and I am on a fixed dose of 2 mg of Rispolept. My husband and I would like to try for a baby, but the problem is that my blood prolactin level is high (3045) and I haven't had my period for a very long time. This is one problem. I am still bothered by the question of whether I should switch to a less invasive drug before becoming pregnant, or if I am pregnant (this is what my psychiatrist advises me). However, I am afraid of the situation when I am pregnant and change the drug - which will not work. I don't want to expose my child to strong psychotropic drugs. The easiest way would be to give up the baby, but this is what my husband and I want.

Schizophrenia does not exclude the chance of having a baby. If you start trying for a baby, the drug should be changed to one that is safe for the fetus. Risperdal can cause increased prolactin levels. You should ask your psychiatrist to change your medication and go to the gynecologist to diagnose the amenorrhea.
