I'm 14 years old and still can't pronounce the letter "r" correctly (I speak French "r"). I went to a speech therapist, but it still didn't help. Could I find out what the positioning of the tongue should be and maybe some exercises for this speech impediment? Thanks in advance.
During the pronunciation of the r sound, the tongue rests against the gingival shaft behind the upper teeth. R is a vibrating sound, so if you want to pronounce it, you need to make the tip of your tongue vibrate. Surely, snorting with your tongue over your lower lip and sweat on the gum shaft is a good exercise. However, I would suggest doing it under the supervision of a speech therapist, because it may fail on its own. You also need to check if you have a shortened sublingual frenulum, because this could have been the reason for the failure of the previous therapy.
