Running on bicycle roads is against the law as this is a space only for cyclists. You can get a fine for jogging on such a path. The only exception is when there is no footpath in a given area.

Running on bicycle paths is not the right solution. According to the law, bicycle paths are intended only for people riding a bicycle. Pedestrians, inline skaters, skateboarders, scooters, and even people who dismount the bicycle and walk it side by side should not be walking along the bicycle path. It is threatened with a fine of PLN 50. The runner, although moving faster than a typical walker, is still a pedestrian under the Road Traffic Law.

In practice, however, the paths marked out (and marked) for cyclists are frequently used by runners. And jogging amateurs themselves are not always aware of the fact that running along a bicycle path endangers their safety. Some cyclists go very fast. If they have to avoid runners, who often have headphones in their ears, it's easy to get in an accident.

Why do runners choose bicycle paths

Running on bicycle paths is more convenient for many people, because they are better lit, you do not have to avoid pedestrians or watch your feet carefully due to unevenness. Although when judged in terms of he alth, it would be best for the joints and muscles to run on a natural surface (e.g. a well-trodden path), not on asph alt or paving slabs. In addition, bicycle paths are most often located along the streets (closer than the pavement), which means inhaling exhaust gases during training.

Important identification

Runners and cyclists should pay attention to signage in their area. One has to be able to distinguish a road for bicycles only (sign C-13) from a road for bicycles and pedestrians (C-13 / C-16), which is also available in two versions. It is popularly called a walking and cycling route (CPR). While on the path for pedestrians pedestrians should not appear, on the path for bicycles and pedestrians not only he is allowed to move, but has priority - the cyclist must give way to him.

Watch out for these signs

  • If there is a vertical line on the sign- pedestrians and cyclists traffic takes place on the indicated sides of the road, respectively.
  • The sign with the bike onlymeans a road only for cyclists.
