American sexologist, Patrick Carnes, author of the book "Sexual anorexia: Overcoming Sexual Self-Hatred" writes that both anorexia nervosa and sexual anorexia have a similar background, course and require a similar approach in treatment.

A person suffering fromsexual anorexiacannot be persuaded to have sex, just as you cannot convince an anorexic to finally eat something, and God forbid she gained weight.

Symptoms of sexual anorexia

The very thought of sexual intercourse is a nightmare for sexual anorexics. They will resort to everything to "postpone" the necessity of intercourse. They cheat their partners out of shame and persistent guilt. They simulate migraines, stomach problems, fatigue. If the excuses keep changing and repeating for more than a month, chances are that your partner has someone else or a big problem with sex. The worst thing you can do then is blame him / her. Only the quick help of a sexologist will straighten the approach to sex and maybe everything will return to normal after some time. However, if this help is not available, then the relationship with sexual anorexia will most likely end in disintegration. Anorexia or sexual aversion affects both men and women. According to sexologists, calling modern coldness similar to one of the most serious eating disorders is not accidental.

According to an expertdr Andrzej Depko, sexologist

The attitudes of women to sex have changed significantly in recent years. On the one hand, the fear of unwanted pregnancy (contraception) has decreased, but on the other hand, there is stress, overwork and a number of other problems that make sexual activity decrease. Some studies show that 43 percent. of women do not experience an orgasm, according to my observations, more than 50 percent. has more or less problems with achieving sexual satisfaction.

In traditional anorexia, the patient does everything not to eat, in anorexia related to intercourse - not to make love. In both cases, the cause is usually low self-esteem, complexes, and professional or emotional problems. Sexual coldness is often the result of depression, nervous breakdown or a state of permanent fatigue caused by, for example, overwork. Sometimes, however, the source of the disease lies in harassment, a failed relationship or a deformed onemorality (e.g. an oath of virginity).

Sexual anorexia - causes

The most is known about women's coldness, but this is because they seek specialist advice more often. In the case of anorexic women from Great Britain or the Netherlands, the most common cause of their illness is childhood trauma - sexual harassment or rigorous upbringing. Polish anorexics start to fall ill most often due to problems with their partner or work. Childhood traumatic experiences are a source of sexual problems for only 10% of respondents. Polish women. Of course, unlike food, sex is not essential to our life. However, when it is depleted, the body becomes more susceptible to various ailments. The circulatory system and immunity are weakened. Blood pressure drops drastically, apathy, discouragement and lack of strength are common symptoms. While there is no scientific evidence that sex extends life, it is known that non-companions complain of more he alth problems. This applies, inter alia, to impaired functions of the reproductive organs - women often have problems with achieving vaginal moisture, men have erectile dysfunction, and even hormonal disorders. That is why it is worth fighting sexual anorexia, although the success of therapy, as in classical anorexia, depends on many factors and the attitude of the patient. The most important stage of treatment is admitting illness and overcoming fears and shame. This is the first step to enjoying love again.

Problem

Sexual anorexia affects one in 10 women - up to 24 years of age, and seven in 10 over 45 years of age. According to a Vamea report by the SMG / KRC research institute, about 17 percent. married women do not lead an active sex life, 41% widows do not have sex, 36 percent virgins do not have sexual partners, and about 46 percent. of women complaining of sexual problems.
