Egg allergy is one of the more common allergic diseases. It affects both children and adults. As research shows, most people with egg allergies are actually allergic to egg white, not yolk. However, anyone allergic to eggs must avoid both ingredients. What are the symptoms of an egg allergy? What should the diet of people allergic to eggs look like?

Egg allergy(allergy to chicken eggs) is a food allergy in the course of which the body becomes hypersensitive to both the protein and the yolk of a chicken egg. However, it sensitizesegg white(specifically proteins such as ovalbumin, ovomucoid and ovotransferrin) more often and more strongly than yolk

Egg allergy occurs mainly but not exclusively in children and is the second most common food allergy in toddlers. Cow's milk allergy comes first.

Egg and egg white allergy usually becomes less with age.

Egg allergy - symptoms

  • oral inflammation
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • breathing difficulties: runny nose, shortness of breath and even asthma
  • hives,
  • conjunctivitis.

The most serious symptom of egg allergy is anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock, during which all symptoms of egg allergy are exacerbated.

Egg allergy - treatment. Egg allergy diet

The only form of treatment for an egg allergy is an elimination diet that excludes foods that may contain eggs from the daily menu. Unfortunately, it is not easy because the egg is hidden in a huge number of food products, such as in pastry products, pasta, dumplings, pates and even in bouillon cubes, beer and wine.

Eggs are a source of protein, so they should be replaced with other products such as dairy, lean meats (e.g. chicken, turkey), fish (e.g. salmon, tuna), tofu, beans.

Egg allergy and vaccines

Vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella(e.g. MMR), as well as against influenza and yellow fever, may or may not cause an allergic reaction or even anaphylactic shock in egg allergies.

Viruses that make up the vaccines are cultivated in chicken embryo fibroblasts, and the media contain small amounts of egg proteins. However, such situations occur very rarely, and doctors ensure that it is completely safe to vaccinate allergic hen eggs against all viruses.

Important

Vitelin, globulin and albumin, or where is the egg hidden?

People who struggle with an egg allergy must read food labels carefully during their daily shopping. The egg is hidden under very enigmatic names, such as: albumin, globulin, lipovitamin, ovalbumin, ovoglobulin.

These are proteins that are sure to cause an allergic reaction in people allergic to eggs, so they should be avoided like fire.
