Hydraulic penile prosthesis is a modern method of treating erectile dysfunction. A penile implant is a hope for many patients who have problems with sexual intercourse. However, it should be remembered that the implantation of a penile prosthesis is performed only when pharmacological treatment fails and there are no other methods of treating erectile dysfunction.

Hydraulic penile prosthesisis a perfect solution not only for mature men.Hydraulic penile prosthesiscan also help young men who suffer from erectile dysfunction due to diabetes or atherosclerosis. It is also an alternative for people who do not want or, for medical reasons, cannot undergo pharmacological treatment. The first procedure of this type in Poland was carried out by doctors from the Urology Clinic of the Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Zabrze.

The male penis consists of 3 parts: the glans, the corpus cavernosum and the urethra surrounded by a spongy body. The glans, or head of the penis, is the most sensitive area of the penis. The cavernous bodies fill with blood and cause an erection. The urethra, which is surrounded by a spongy body, is part of the urinary system. The cavernous bodies consist of two cylindrical spaces located on both sides of the urethra. They have the ability to both accumulate and empty blood, which ensures the ability to get an erection and return to a flaccid state. Erectile dysfunction occurs when the corpora cavernosa is unable to fill with blood

Hydraulic penile prosthesis - indications

In patients undergoing first-line therapies, incl. pharmacological treatment, LSWT Renova shock wave therapy or injections into the cavernous bodies of the penis, do not have the expected effect, surgical treatment can be used - penile implant implantation. Hydraulic implants allow you to maintain the natural structure of the penis at rest and during an erection.

What does hydraulic penis implantation surgery look like?

The hydraulic penisconsists of 3 elements:

  • liquid container
  • two cylinders
  • pushups

Both cylinders are implanted in the cavernous bodies of the penis. The reservoir is filled with saline and implanted above the groin. The pump is implanted subcutaneously into the scrotum. All 3 elements are connected to each other via a tube system.

Sex after hydraulic penis implantation surgery

The penile implant cylinders placed in the corpora cavernosa are filled by pressing the pump located in the scrotum until the desired erection is achieved.

Penile implant surgery costs PLN 57,000

Activating the pump moves the saline from the reservoir hidden inside the body to the two mentioned reservoirs located in the corpora cavernosa of the penis. This mimics the natural process of filling the cavernous bodies with blood. Penis laxity is obtained after releasing the valve in the pump mechanism located in the scrotum. Typically, the penile implant is ready for use 8 weeks after the implantation procedure.

After the implantation surgery, the man can enjoy a full and lasting erection. However, you should know that after the implantation of a hydraulic penile prosthesis, a man cannot get an erection without pumping the implant. If the implant is later removed, the man will never have a natural erection.

According to an expertMarek Filipek, MD, PhD, Medical Director of HIFU CLINIC - Medicover Hospital

The implantation of a hydraulic penile implant is the definitive solution for patients with erectile dysfunction who are not amenable to other forms of treatment. It should be remembered that erectile dysfunction is only a symptom of many pathological changes of a psychological, organic or mixed nature, or they occur in connection with operations or injuries.

To decide on the correct qualification, it is necessary to recognize the nature of this type of disorder, which is associated with the need to consult not only a urologist but also a psychologist / sexologist in certain situations, an endocrinologist or a cardiologist. In addition, additional biochemical and imaging diagnostics (USG) should be performed with the administration of an agent that stimulates the inflow of blood into the corpus cavernosum. Only the determination of the indications and the conversation with the patient about his expectations after implantation determine the qualification.

In our HIFU CLINIC center - Medicover Hospital - we especially deal with patients after operations such as prostatectomy (removal of the prostate due to cancer) or cystectomy - (removal of the bladder due to cancer). After this type of surgery, erectile dysfunction occurs in about 80% of cases. The solution in the form of implantation is a salvation for their masculinity - analogous to the implantation of a breast implant in women after mastectomy, improving ina special way of living comfort. In Poland, a penile implant as a form of treatment is a neglected solution that requires education among both patients and doctors.

Worth knowing

Advantages of a penile implant

The penile implant is completely discreet, the natural appearance of the penis is preserved during the intercourse, so the partner may not even be aware of the presence of the implant.

Larger penis diameter at rest and when erect. According to research, women pay more attention to girth / thickness than to penis length.

Increased resistance of inflated cylinders to compression or twisting for optimal support during sexual intercourse.

Implants are comfortable, soft and quiet when empty. Empty implants do not make any sounds like plastic.
